Age: 30+
Other Characters: N/A
Name: Maggie Rhee
Canon: The Walking Dead: Dead City
Canon Point: End of season 1
Age: Early 40s
Backstory: Here
Personality:
+Default emotional state and temperament: While Maggie cares deeply for the people she is close to, as well as those in her community, she is capable of being ruthless to anyone she regards as a threat, coming right out and telling the deputy governor of another community, "Plenty others have made the mistake of threatening my family, most of them are dead now," after frightening and attempting to manipulate her young son.
When driven to anger, she can be vengeful and impulsive, and shows this on multiple occasions to varying degrees, from destroying her ex-boyfriend's car with a tractor while she was in high school to physical violence, including killing unarmed combatants after agreeing to set them free.
+Motivations and goals: Maggie is strongly motivated by the people around her - her friends and family are a driving influence, along with those she considers herself responsible for as a leader in her community. She is driven by a desire to build a better life rather than simply survive, which is why she and Glenn choose to have a child.
Later, her hatred for her husband's killer becomes strong factor in her behaviour - after Rick spares Negan, she decides to seek revenge with the help of Daryl, and attempts to kill him (the realization that a harsher punishment is letting him live his life imprisoned stays her hand). Realizing her inability to move on, she leaves her community with her son. In spite of life on the road being difficult and dangerous, she later explains she didn't want Negan taking up more space in her head, and she doesn't want Hershel to see the hold his father's killer has over her.
Currently, her now teenaged son has confronted her and accused her of not being there for him because of her obsession with revenge, and constantly looking over his shoulder past him instead of seeing him. She says essentially because of everything she has lost she developed a mindset that if she just fought back hard enough she could get back some of it, but she's realized that it doesn't work that way and it's cost her what she has, showing her more current motivation is to move past her old traumas to develop a better relationship with Hershel.
+Regrets and fears: Maggie fears losing the people she cares about. After returning home, and discovering Hilltop has been devastated by fire and is running dangerously low on resources, she takes a group on the road to attempt to recover supplies from the last community she stayed in that was overrun by a group of former soldiers. In spite of extremely dangerous conditions, and multiple deaths of those following her, she insists on pushing on as she can't bear the thought of returning to her starving community empty-handed.
Hershel's abduction reawakens this fear and trauma from Glenn's death, causing her to have nightmares regarding both as Hershel's abductor was part of Negan's original gang, and used the same two note whistle the Saviors used to intimidate her group initially.
Her main regret currently is her difficult relationship with her son. She has regrets as well about betraying Negan, especially after she carries out her plan to trade him for Hershel and he tells her they could have worked together and saved her son.
+Breaking points: Threats against the people she cares for, especially her son, will send her into a rage. She does not take well to others suggesting the things that she has done makes her as bad as her enemies as she sees them as very different situations. The loss of her loved ones is what risks shutting her down completely - she loses her only two remaining family members in a short span of time, and after discovering her sister was both alive, and then dead in the same day, she says she is unsure she wants to keep fighting to stay alive.
+Values: One of Maggie's core values is loyalty to those in her circle, and her willingness to do what she thinks is right. She has a strong sense of justice and has shown herself to be ruthless in dealing with people who are threat to her, or the people she cares about, believing the punishment should fit the crime. She has Gregory publicly executed after he attempted to orchestrate her assassination, but imprisons the man manipulated into actually committing the attempt, eventually releasing him. She shows her ruthlessness again in executing two of the Reapers she agreed to release while their backs were turned, and attempting to kill a third, resulting in injury. She would say this was done out of justice, but it was vengeance driving her after the Reapers slaughtered the community she was living with at the time, including children. She shows her willingness to make any sacrifice she deems necessary to protect the people she loves by lying to Negan and convincing him to go with her to Manhattan to rescue him, when in reality, she needed Negan to come with her as the Croat was holding Hershel hostage in exchange for her bringing Negan to him.
+How do they handle change and trauma? Specifically the changes and trauma of turning into a monster?: The trauma Maggie experiences from the onset of the apocalypse hardens her considerably. She goes from an individual who believes walkers are sick people who need help to someone who is capable of murdering other living people in order to protect the people she cares about. Upon the loss of her remaining blood relatives, she shuts down for a time, but upon the loss of her husband, grief-stricken, she turns to wrath, which becomes her go to when someone threatens/harms/kills someone she cares about.
As far as becoming a monster herself goes, she will likely struggle with fear of losing her humanity at first, but as she learns she can use those abilities to help others, she is more likely to lean into it.
Powers/Abilities:
Maggie is human, so no special powers, but she has survived for nineteen years after the end of the world, so she is not lacking in skills.
Combat - Maggie has shown herself to be an effective fighter, comfortable both with melee weapons (knives in particular), and ranged weapons (preference for handguns, but she is also seen to be proficient with a bow). She is able to adapt to other weapons as necessary, even at one point wielding a road sign against several walkers.
Survival - Maggie grew up on a farm, and is very knowledgeable when it comes to growing food and plants, but she has also had to adapt over the years and she has become a capable hunter and scavenger as well.
Inventory: The clothes on her back. She wields two knives on her belt. Silver necklace around her neck with her wedding ring on it that doubles as a weapon. She also has a knife hidden in the sole of her boot that can be revealed by hitting her heel against a solid object.
Game Plans: With her focus at her current canon point being wanting to work on her relationship with her son, she will likely be frustrated to be pulled away from that and want to work quickly towards the goal of reaching Nirvana in hopes that that means going home. With no one she knows around, she will likely learn quickly that she needs to trust the others in the convoy to accomplish this. Hoping as well to develop her character into being able to put her previous traumas to bed (even if it means focusing on new ones instead).
Monster Choice:
Zoanthrope - Werewolf: with themes of found family (pack), protective instincts, and a desire to lead, this is likely the best fit for Maggie currently!
Celestial - Angel: Leaning into Maggie's more ruthless side and her strong desire to punish those who have wronged her or harmed the people she cares about would make this an excellent option as well.
Fae - Fairy: This would be an option too for traits such as plant/nature affinity, given Maggie's farming abilities, her adherence to her own code, and the wrath she is willing to bring down on those who break it.
Vehicle Choice: Older model Ford F-150 (1980-1986) with toughness trait
